Within the Translational Research Institute (TRI), the following postdoctoral positions are available:
Principal Investigator: Peter Hodder
E-mailhodderp@scripps.edu
TRI Division : Lead ID
Research Description: Will be responsible for developing and implementing novel biochemical and cell-based functional high-throughput screening (HTS) assays for drug discovery. Depending on the candidates expertise, perform enzymology, cell biology, or molecular biology techniques necessary to develop and implement HTS assays. This includes subcloning and generation of expression vectors to create stable mammalian cell lines, mammalian/bacterial protein expression and purification, mammalian/bacterial culture, determination of enzymatic parameters. Perform optimization of biochemical and cell-based assays. Operate and troubleshoot automated liquid handling and analytical equipment. Utilize a variety of spreadsheet and data management software systems to generate, analyze and report data from research efforts.
Requirements: Ph.D. in Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Engineering Sciences. Background in and experience with enzyme kinetics, protein expression, protein purification (especially Äkta FPLC), and/or mammalian/bacterial culture, cloning and expression.   Proficiency with operation of common equipment/instrumentation found in an enzymology, (e.g. stop-flow instrumentation) cell biology (e.g. tissue culture/transfection technology), molecular biology (e.g. gel electrophoresis/ western blots), microbiology and/or an analytical (e.g. LC-MS) laboratory. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and a desire to work in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary collaborative team in a production-oriented setting similar to that found in the pharmaceutical industry. Specific HTS background not required. Please send CV and a list of at least 3 professional references to Dr. Peter Hodder, hodderp@scripps.edu.
