Professional Courses
All IGERT fellows will take a course entitled “Graduate Survival Skills
for the 21st Century”, offered by Professor Troy Shinbrot. This course
will comprise case-study discussions and visiting lectures on three
major topics:
(a) “Responsible Conduct of Research and Bioethics” -- Topics include:
Experimental Design and scientific data; Ethical Writing; Citations &
Plagiarism; Peer review; Conflicts of Interest; Intellectual Property
and Patent Policies; Ethical use of subjects; Bioethics; Research safety;
(b) Technical Communications, and Effective Teaching and Learning
Methods --The lectures on teaching/learning methods will be jointly
developed in partnership with the RB Davis Learning Institute of the
Rutgers Graduate School of Education (Dr. Carolyn A. Maher);
(c) Translational Research and Technology Transfer – lectures will be
arranged by the Rutgers Office of Corporate Liaison & Technology
Transfer and the Rutgers Entrepreneurial Management Program.
